Taking Corporate Responsibility and sustainability seriously
As one of the leading food to go providers in the UK, we take sustainability within our supply chain and corporate responsibility very seriously here at Adelie. We have made a number of pledges and committed to initiatives to ensure we maintain high industry standards when selecting who we work with and how we work. Food & Health
Within our food and health strategy, we ensure our suppliers meet approved standards of food safety, quality and hygiene and treat their staff in an ethical manner. All our food is produced to UK legislative or equivalent standards – this extends to animal welfare so all our eggs and egg derivatives are free range, and our fish is responsibly sourced.
We won’t work with GM products and none of our food includes any hydrogenated fats. We continuously work to reduce saturated fat, salt, sugar and higher energy (calorie) products and our range of gluten free products are all certified by Coeliac UK.
As signatories of the UK Plastics Pact, we are actively looking at ways to reduce the amount of plastics we use and increase the amount of recycled content where food contact legislation allows. As a company we are very mindful of our responsibilities towards the markets and communities we serve. Our packaging is designed to give best eating quality through shelf-life, with the ‘Circular Economy’ in mind.
While almost all our packaging can be recycled, we also understand that the current infrastructure doesn’t always enable this to happen. That’s why we ensure our consumers know how best to dispose of our packaging. We also enforce a strict zero waste to landfill policy to reduce our carbon impact. We also help to fight surplus bread waste by supplying bread to Toast Ale who use a slice of bread for every bottle of beer they brew.
All of the raw materials we use at Adelie are responsibly sourced and reducing our carbon impact is high on our agenda. As a result, we have adopted a managed energy programme and are continuously looking at ways to minimise our delivery vehicle fuel consumption.
People are at the heart of our business, which is why we started the flagship Adelie Academy to ensure all our employees have job opportunities and the ability to continue to gain skills and qualifications.
All our manufacturing sites are registered with SEDEX and our factories adhere to local labour laws, HACCP controls, OH&S laws and health and safety standards.
We are proud to say we hire from socially excluded areas such as ex-military and ex-offenders, while diversity and equality are in all aspects of our operation.
