Adelie Foods at the National Convenience Show 2018

Last month, Adelie Foods exhibited at the National Convenience Show (NCS) in Birmingham for the first time, the annual mecca for owners of convenience stores, forecourt traders, independent retailers, symbol groups, off licences and wholesalers.

This year’s event provided a fascinating insight into the latest trends, with Food to Go, high- protein snacks, healthy drink solutions and coffee all generating a lot of interest from suppliers and retailers. Vaping and slushies are also an important part of the offering, as clearly highlighted by the vast number of stands.

With URBAN eat, the UK’s favourite sandwich, now available to convenience retailers alongside some of the nation’s favourite brands, it was an exciting time for us to take part in the show and to meet with key retailers, suppliers and media.

URBAN eat is the perfect range for convenience with extended life on some of our top sellers and an online sale and return model so waste is clearly tracked, and credit claims raised automatically.

At the show we announced our new direct-to-store delivery service providing retailers with a consolidated ‘One Stop Shop’ of must-stock, branded Food to Go SKUs. Our small range of complimentary Food to Go products is made up of all the big hitters. This includes Wall’s, the number 1 savoury pastry brand in the channel. The new additions and no-fuss delivery system further strengthens URBAN eat as a compelling choice for stores of all sizes and locations.

Whilst at the show, we were also invited to take part in an NCS panel discussion, where the importance of a tailored Food to Go offering for a convenience stores’ local demographic was highlighted. Our own research has shown that no matter the time of day, retailers can expect a steady sale of fresh and chilled product, so retailers need to ensure shelves are stocked wisely to make the most of the opportunity.

Looking ahead, we’ll continue to see a rise in popularity for catering to specialised diets such as vegan or dairy-free, both accommodated by our URBAN eat Roots range, while hot breakfast will be a defining product for Food to Go in the next 12 months.

We’re looking forward to next year’s show already!
